"It's always been my favourite musical": Q&A with our Joseph, Reuben Leonard!

Tell us a little bit about Joseph.

Joseph is a really complex and fun character. He changes a great throughout the show and that is has been really enjoyable to portray so far.

The story follows Jospeh’s journey as he goes from being the favourite son of 12 to being sold into slavery by his brothers to then being king of Egypt and still though all that is able to forgive and love.

What really stands out to me about this show is that in nearly every show there’s a love interest but in this show it’s about family love. That's why I love this show so much.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Have Gallery 7 audiences seen you before?

This is my first production with Gallery 7, but I’ve done a fair amount of musicals in my life and have had a love for musicals since I was a little boy.

Joseph has always been my favourite musical and has been my dream role since I was 5, so it’s crazy that here I am with such an amazing company, cast and crew doing this role.

How have rehearsals been going? Any standout moments?

Rehearsals have been so so so amazing and a great learning experience. Tony is such an amazing director, he has brought so much out of me that I didn’t even know I had.

When rehearsals began, I kind of held back and wasn’t giving it my all because I was intimidated by all of the amazing actors and this great director. As rehearsals continued, I got to know everyone better and Tony gave me loads of motivation so that I really could bring everything I had out for this role.

What is your favourite moment in the show?

My favourite moment in this show is when the brothers come to Egypt and Joseph tests them to see if they have changed and when they prove to him they have he forgives them. This show is an amazing experience singing and acting-wise but it is also very emotional and brings tears to my eyes.

What are you most looking forward to audiences seeing?

I’m most looking forward for people to see my interpretation of Jospeh and the journey he goes through in the story, but I am also so excited for them to see how amazing and devoted this cast is to the show. It is amazing to see everyone so into every song.

I think the 700 people a night is gonna freak me out all the way up until I go on stage, but I know once I get up there I will be 100% fine.
