Hello folks;
Okay, it's been a long, long time since I've been able to post anything. Sorry about that. It's difficult to stay on top of everything when you're responsible for the day-to-day operations of the theatre, directing a show, doing a lighting design and producing a show.
Not that I'm complaining - I love my job! But sometimes I just don't get to everything as much as I would like. At any rate, here are a couple of things that have come across my desk, plus an update on The Diary of Anne Frank...
The Diary of Anne Frank Opens...
This past weekend, we opened Gallery 7 Theatre's third production of the 2009/2010 Rise to the Challenge theatre season, The Diary of Anne Frank. I'm really proud of this show, as I am with all of our shows, but as the director, I am proud to have worked with such a talented and professional group of performers, crew members and designers. Here are some of the comments we've received thus far:
"I brought my 11 year old to the show on Friday night and both of us enjoyed it immensely! She's been studying the Holocaust in school so I thought it would be a good and timely fit. I must admit I was a little concerned about the topic at her age, but your protrayal of the story was perfect - moving and emotional but not overtly so. It certainly sparked good conversation afterwards. I look forward to the next production!"
"Opening night was great! Superb acting, wonderful set. At times, I was so engrossed that I forgot it was a play. I appreciated your comments in the program about playing to the hope rather than to the tragedy. I don't know if the comedic moments were a part of that philosophy, but the lightheartedness of them did help me get involved in the story without feeling maudlin about the realities involved. I must admit, though, that I did tear up at the very end...in all, a wonderful evening!"
"What a great performance! We sat in the front row...(at the end) I was still trying to get a handle on my emotions!"
"Fantastic job everyone! I loved it!!"
"Great job, y'all!"
I hope you will join us for this for this powerful theatre experience. The show runs March 11 - 13, 18 - 20, 2010 at 7:30 PM with an additional matinee on March 13 at 2:00 PM at the MEI Theatre, 4081 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. Tickets are available at House of James: 604-852-3701.
