About Theatre-A-Thon 2007...

“All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players” according to Shakespeare, which means there must be people out there just looking for an opportunity to act. If that’s you, then Gallery 7 Theatre has a unique opportunity for you to participate in a unique theatre experience.

Theatre-a-thon 2007 is Gallery 7’s first annual “Lock-in” play development and performance fundraiser event and will be held May 11-12, 2007. You and four or five others will work together for 24-hours to brainstorm, write, produce and present a 10 minute play which will be performed and judged before a live audience. Teams will be given certain criteria that they’ll have to include, will have access to lights, sound, and stage and the rest will come from the team itself. The goal is to have 50 people participate in the event.

This unique idea for a fundraiser came out of a desire to raise funds for the theatre but do so in a way that connects people with what Gallery 7 does: theatre. “We could have done a traditional dinner and speaker event, but really felt like we wanted to give people a unique opportunity that was fun, participatory, and that enabled people to experience the theatre community,” says Ken Hildebrandt, Artistic Director for Gallery 7.

Participants pay a registration fee of $25 to cover meals and expenses and will commit to raising a minimum of $200 in pledges. Gallery 7’s goal is to raise $10,000 to support its mission of providing quality theatre that challenges the mind, speaks to the heart and elevates the soul. Fully 25% of the theatre’s expenses are covered by sponsorships, donors and fundraisers like this one. There will be prizes given for a variety of achievements and a Theatre Package grand prize for the person who brings in the most pledges and donations.

But it is not just about raising funds, Hildebrand says. “It’s as much about raising community – about encouraging creativity and fun and giving people a sense of ownership of this theatre company,” he says.

Those who are interested in participating in Gallery 7’s Theatre-a-thon 2007 can register as teams (of no more than 6) or as individuals.
