ABBY THEATRE FEST

STAGE TO SCREEN EDITION 2.0

COMING FALL, 2021

Abby Theatre Fest: Stage to Screen Edition is an online version of our annual one-act play festival, but with a twist. We invite visual & performing artists, writers, and film-makers from around the world to submit videoed performances of their original work, whether it be a devised short film or a performance of their short stories, poems, monologues or plays. It's the same heart, soul and mind theatre you expect from us, just something a bit edgy, something a bit different.

Applications

We are inviting performing, literary and visual artists to get creative by developing their own original work, videoing it and submitting it for broadcast during Abby Theatre Fest: Stage to Screen 2.0 this Fall.

Original videos can be a serious or comedic monologue, a short, scripted film, a spoken word, an original movement piece set to original music, a dramatic reading of your own short story or series of poems, a dramatic reading of a short play you have written, a series of songs centered around a theme you’ve written and can perform, a creative video showcase of your visual art, or whatever your creative genius comes up with.

While creators have a wide berth to explore and take artistic risks, all submissions should reflect our mandate: ‘to explore the spiritual, relational and social aspects of the human experience with a vision towards hope, reconciliation and redemption.”

As an added bonus, we’re offering artists of approved projects a 30% share of gross box office revenues!

Submission & Approval Dates

Please note that there are two deadlines this year: one for new projects created specifically for the festival, and one for completed projects not yet widely broadcast.

Date and Location: Abby Theatre Fest – Stage to Screen Edition

Abby Theatre Fest: Stage to Screen Edition 2.0 will run online September 24 & 25 and October 1 & 2, 2021. We will premier approved videos as part of a live stream event on the Friday evenings of the festival. A recording of the event will stream on the subsequent Saturday night.

Audiences will be able to purchase tickets to either the live stream event or the recorded event. Both events will feature real-time audience interaction.

The live stream event will be a hosted program featuring introductions to each video as well as select recorded interviews with the creators of the content. All socially distanced and following applicable BC Health orders and protocols in place at the time, of course.

Once the festival is complete, recordings of the live stream events will be made available for audiences to purchase ‘on-demand’ and watch at their leisure.
